The Sentencing Services program operates in Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties to assist nonviolent offenders who have upcoming cases in Superior Court. In many cases, the judge has an option of sentencing a person to prison or leaving the individual in the community under court supervision and with requirements for treatment, restitution, and community service. The Sentencing Services program completes an assessment on each individual identifying risk areas and available community resources. The goal of the program is to provide safe and reasonable alternatives to prison so people can retain jobs, pay restitution, get treatment, and support their families.
