The goal of the Pretrial program is to reduce overcrowding in the Catawba jail system and help move cases through the courts. The Pretrial program serves Catawba residents who are in the Newton jail facility or the Burke/Catawba Detention Center in Burke County. The Pretrial program helps eligible inmates request bond modification hearings if they have been in jail for 48 hours and can not make bail. The program also helps inmates wishing to speed up their cases by pleading guilty and starting to serving their time or be released for time served by grouping cases together and getting the cases on the court docket.
